Quality Control Manager

Main Role

  • Reporting to the Technical/Operations Manager, the Quality Control Manager will lead and manage the quality control department (talent management, performance management, capability management, process and systems) in order to achieve the required business outputs in the most efficient and effective manner.

Duties

  • Develop and execute plans to support requirements of Legacy quality systems.
  • Align quality management and food safety systems to regulatory authorities' requirements and international standards (ISO 9001:2015, ISO 22000, Zambia Bureau of Standards and Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency).
  • In consultation with the Technical Manager and Plant Manager, determine, negotiate and agree on in-house quality procedures, standards and specifications.
  • Plan and execute internal audits to ensure compliance with Legacy quality management systems and regulatory authorities' requirements.
  • Coordinate third party audits.
  • Draft technical documents such as SOPs, procedures, manuals, dossiers, COA, MSDS and specifications.
  • Develop new testing methods.
  • Participate in new product development.
  • Develop laboratory capability to ensure measurement and monitoring is well managed, with effective human resources, training, capability and integrity of measurement tools.
  • Implement quality at source on the shop floor through effective human resources, training, capability and integrity of measurement tools.
  • Develop and utilise concessions and permits system in quality assurance.
  • Provide leadership and guidance through the provision of quality tools and systems to ensure compliance to standards and specifications.
  • Assure integrity of quality results in laboratories and on the shop floor (e.g. inter-laboratory error control and reference standards).
  • Implement reporting and analysis of non-conformances.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of all non-conformances including customer complaints, and lead action plans to eliminate the problems.
  • Develop and implement a product recall procedure.
  • Manage customer complaints.
  • Manage external relationships with regulatory authorities and aggrieved customers.
  • Communicate latest legislation impacting the organisation to senior management.
  • Manage human resources in the department.
  • Record, analyse and distribute statistical information to the Technical Manager.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 certificate or equivalent.
  • Minimum BSc. (Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry) or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of Quality Management and Food Safety Management systems such as ISO 9001, ISO 22000, TQM and HACCP.
  • At least five (5) years of work experience in the food industry in a supervisory or management capacity.
  • Knowledge of edible oil extraction technology and corn-soya blend food manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of test methods and instrumentation.
  • Good understanding of the principles of Manufacturing Excellence.
  • Analytical problem solving (including Statistical Process Control) techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels; influencing ability and attention to detail.
  • In-depth understanding of ZABS, ZEMA, City Council and Food & Drug regulations.
